In the 70s, in order to know the best waves and map the coast of the country, the surfer should be an explorer, leading a simple and peaceful life next to the isolated villages of artisanal fishermen. Garopaba was the perfect example of this scenario and it was there that the history of Mormaii began.

The perfect waves of the region attracted Morongo to that village still without electricity supply and without a doctor.

Graduated in medicine, Marco Aurélio Raymundo left Rio Grande do Sul and went to Santa Catarina to live a different life. I wanted to provide care at the health center for the community in the region, but I also wanted to surf directly, on empty beaches. However, staying in the water during the winter was impossible, due to the low sea temperatures.

It was then that Morongo took the initiative to sew a neoprene suit for himself, in his living room. Soon, the news spread and orders started. The creation of the first surf wetsuits in the country allowed any Brazilian athlete to buy one, without depending on imported products.

Along with the evolution of the brand, surfing became a prestigious sport in the 1980s, with a well-organized professional Brazilian circuit and specialized magazines.

At the same time, other forms of action sports, such as windsurfing and bodyboarding, emerged strongly on the national horizon. Mormaii, then, offered the same quality to meet the new demand and started to manufacture menswear, womenswear and accessories.

Over the more than three decades it has gone through, Mormaii has been characterized by expansion in several sectors. It entered the 21st century with vigor, experience and a product mix exceeding 5,000 items. Growth has crossed borders, seas and seduced customers from the most demanding international markets.

Among the innovations constantly launched with Mormaii quality, there are bicycles, sunglasses, accessories, watches, boards, kitesurfing, sneakers, slippers, camping line, fashion fashion, jeans, women’s shoes and even the Mormaii / Suzuki SX4 vehicle.

In the motorcycling segment, Mormaii started showing the power of a great brand, by sponsoring the stage of the Motocross World Circuit in Brazil, since 2009, and together hiring a team of riders belonging to the categories MX1, MX2 and base as 85cc.

In this way, Mormaii heats up the market and launches exclusive lines for this audience, including helmets and special clothes for motocross riders. There is also the line of Mormaii street helmets already on sale throughout Brazil.

With releases of the highest quality and original design, Mormaii opens more and more space between large corporations, without ever losing its essence linked to the sea, to action sports.

The secret of this success is to meet the needs of the consumer in all areas in which the brand operates and launch equipment for athletes to train in contact with nature, ensuring maximum safety.

To this day, Dr. Morongo holds the position of president of the Mormaii Group and continues to surf and practice various action sports, with articles developed by the brand that he himself created.
